The main floor of the episcopal palace of Astorga was built between 1891 and 1892. Gaudí surpassed the stylization that he had done on the ground floor, with surprising results of light, color and harmony of an inexhaustible wealth of nuances. This plant so wonderful is that Gaudi properly understood as a "palace or the residence of the bishop" for his friend Dr. Grau. A broad square lobby occupies the center, whose slender vault hold four columns of granite. The decor is very nice. The capitals are fantastic and stone and ceramic glazed play capriciously in all veins. Three Gothic doors give entry to the Throne Hall, held by six Mudejar capitals monolithic columns, as the veins of the ceramics giant arches. The decor, even more baroque, and the lighting of windows lead the gaze to the Throne. Above is a canopy of granite that is only one stone that reaches the exterior facade, decorated with a cane, crosses, owls, and so on. Also notable is the fireplace with its own vault. Various doors leading to the rooms of the bishop, of the priests, the office, the dining room and the other stays. But the auction of the main floor, the key and essential, is the chapel. This chapel is very similar to that of Jesus-Maria in Tarragona, which Dr. Grau had blessed in 1879. An area of exquisite proportions and a delicate execution, which invites the sensitive soul to pray.
